From September 2021, this dynamic and forward-looking school requires an enthusiastic Head of Classics to inspire pupils in Years 9 to 13.

A school like no other, Wellington College is one of the world’s leading co-educational boarding and day schools and has an enviable reputation for excellence and innovation. We’re currently looking for a well-organised, self-motivated and inspiring Teacher of Classics to head up our thriving Classics team.

The Classics department consists of seven teachers, each of whom contribute to the teaching of Latin, Greek and ancient history and are committed to making the Classics Department a centre for excellence in the study of the subject. Join us, and, as well as leading and inspiring your team, you will have every opportunity to make the most of your sharp and ambitious vision of the subject.

In addition to general teaching responsibilities, we will rely on you to manage, lead and co-ordinate the activities of the department and ensure colleagues can access the material resources they need. Overseeing best practice in teaching, fostering a collaborative, collegial and supportive departmental team, helping to recruit and induct new staff and contributing to the formulation of an annual development plan – all are aspects of a role that will also see you contribute fully to the extra-curricular and pastoral life of the College.

To succeed, you will need a good level degree in classics, including high level Latin, Greek and ancient history. You will also need a thorough knowledge and teaching experience of the 13-18 subject curriculum and awareness of safeguarding requirements and good practice in a boarding school setting. Smart and professional in appearance, you are a dedicated team player who strives for excellence and leads by example. What’s more, you have the communication skills it takes to enable effective dialogue with pupils, parents, staff and visitors alike.

Not only is this an excellent career development opportunity, it also comes with a generous salary and benefits package. So, if you are committed to boarding school life and keen to continue to develop professionally, apply today.
